Your Camaro has a 8.5 rear end, not a 10.5.

If you remove the ring gear from the differential it will be a lot easier to remove and install the S spring. I use Channel Locks to compress the spring and push it back in between the axle gears. Tory has new clutches and shim sets for the 8.5 Traction Lock differential. Set up the clutches just like the Eaton Posi. The Tom's Differentials video explains how to shim them.

Ok, finely got around to taking apart the clutches and gears, the ring gear looked new, stamped 1 GM 3984831 12 41 7 73,? Housing stamped, 410408n GM 5 J 2 0 10 2 70 . All this look right for 74 8.5 10 bolt? The S spring shows some ruffnes where it had been trying to move a little. The clutches look worn some , 3 with teeth each side,4 with out teeth with stops or what ever, and 1 thick shim each side,090 ring gear side and 1 thick shim washer .094 other side . Could i put a shim on each side to take up some slack, If so how do i tell how much and where? Am going to buy new spider gear washers for under gears and pin,all new bearings ,and pion bearings and crush slive. I should put in new clutches but this just going to be a driver for grand son. Am cheap old s**,,, Thanks, So much, for you guys input,, camaro 71/hollan,, Big gear head,,Green hornet,,djorgensen3 thanks all

Tom's video shows how to set up the clutches for the Eaton Posi, but it works for the Traction Lock too. The problem with the Traction Lock is that GM never offered any shims for the clutches. Tory makes shims for it, but I don't know if he sells them without the clutches. I don't think you can get thrust washers for this differential.

Can't see your pics. It says 3rd party hosting has been temporarily disabled. Am I doing something wrong?

I can't see them either. I'm pretty sure that the 8.5 Traction Lock washers are different from any others.
