I have a transmission leak and was told that in order to solve it, I need to pick-up an umbrella or hat dipstick to better seal it. Does anyone know where I could find one? Thanks!

Is it leaking out of the tube?

I think it's called a top hat seal. It seals the dipstick where it goes into the tranny. I had to get one after I rebuilt my tranny years ago and found out the hard way that I had the wrong seal in place. I went to a local transmission shop and got the seal.

There are two types of dipstick seals... "O" ring and top hat.

All three parts must match to get leak-free seal. Transmission case, dipstick tube and the proper seal between them.

I just converted an old Oring type to the tophat type with an aftermarket dipstick tube. Of course I can't remember where I got it but I think it was from Hughes. I hate the oring type.

Thanks for the responses. I get far better replies from this forum vs any other auto site. So, I need the tube, dipstick and seal, correct? I measured my old current one and it's 28". I assume the big box stores e.g., Advanced Auto, Auto Zone, O'reilly's don't carry them. When I order from ATI or Hughes, I just give them the length and 1974 Camaro TH350?

Thanks for the part number, it simplifies things.

Just an opinion: Always change O-rings to Top Hats! They are a WAY more reliable seal than O-Rings! One on the kick-down cable and one on the dipstick tube = NO MORE LEAKS!
