Gear oil Removal

    Yea once you get it dry ish keep sapping it with a rag and simple green in time the smell will go away

    Gear lube has some sulfur compound in it, gives it the EP rating, makes it really stink. Sulfur is acidic so I'd guess any strong alkaline cleaner that cuts grease would also get rid of that smell. Purple Power seems to be pretty good stuff for that, and pretty cheap too.

    8 years later I'd hope the smell was gone or new carpeting :D

    Hey all!
    Did see this post from wayback in 2008 .
    Of course we all know why I am looking and I will wipe the garage floor a bit better next time! lol
    Anyways...tryed some non chlorinated brake clean on the carpet in my truck.
    I smells liike dry cleaning fluid for an hour or so but now the gear oil stain.smell is gone!
    Just thought I would share.

    Let a cat piss on it a couple times. Problem solved.
