Pure bleach will get the oil and smell from your carpet, but test it first. Depending on how colorfast the carpet is, bleach will also remove the color.

dont know if you get over there, but swarfega green hand cleaner works well.
just wash it out whit water after applying.put it on rub in by hand leave it 1/2 hr or so then wash it out.

Yeah...well I got some of that racing limited slip additive on my hands one time and I could taste it in my I didn't stick my dirty fingers in my mouth. I could taste that stuff for like 2 days...that can't be good.

Since gear oil is mostly organic..i bet didi7 or oxyclean would get rid of it...powdered laundry saop would work as well..I washed my muncie parts in the laundry sink with powdered laundry soap and they came out clean with a fresh spring scent.

Is this used gear oil spilled in the car or in the house?if you answer to part 2 i dont know the circumstances that that would happen, but iv used a product called lest oil found at the local foodstore and has worked for lots of greasy messes like foot prints trailed into the house.
