To remove the transverse muffler in the future what is my best option for fasteners?

Removing the muffler is needed to remove the gas tank. 1" clearance between tank and muffler and 1" between muffler and differential.

The exhaust pipe is a modular Thrush kit, lap joined at 2.5" and aluminumized steel. The kit came with U-bolt clamps but only loosely tightened.

Are band clamps my best option? But even with band clamps how likely is it the aluminumized pipe can be pulled apart? Looking at Pypes HVC10.

I have a Thrush transverse system in my car.
I used band clamps on the straight connections but I wasn't able to use them on the muffler connections as the curve of the pipes is too close to the muffler to provide a straight area for proper clamping.
I used the U-bolts for those connections.

Thanks but yuck..!! Using U-bolts, I don't see any likely hood of removing the pipes from the muffler .

How can the muffler be removed in the future?

No removal of your transverse muffler. Woooo. Though the new sending unit has not arrived will put the old one in tomorrow, put the gas tank in place, install the muffler and see if I can get the tank out.

Did look at the idea of an airplane access panel in the trunk but that won't enable the removal and replacement of the sending unit with the tank in place. The installed one can only removed by cutting the metal fuel discharge line. There is no way to get a new unit through an access panel because of the discharge arm

I need to drop the tank in my '72. How did you handle the front strap bolts? Thanks

Bolts for the tank straps are behind the tail panel/bumper
