Somebody walked off with my Pro disk so all I had to install was Home.

SATA... FTW Nope...didn't open the case.

Tried the Disc Management thing. I don't want to format the drive because it has all my pictures and music on it. 40 Gb worth of stuff...ya know? When I put the drive in a machine with Pro on it, it is found and I can access all my stuff just fine.

Ev, did you have the drive hooked up when you installed XP home? If so, did it show up in the set up during the OS install?

    Ev ,

Do what I said and tell me what you see, or just take a screen snapshot
and show me what you're looking at.

Right click My Computer > Manage > Disc Management.

That should take you to your HDD master control.
Do a shift / print screen and then open up MS Paint > Paste and crop and host.

Something tells me you are missing a SATA driver.
Also Right Click My Computer > Properties > Device Manager - make sure you don't have any yellow ?'s

    Land of enlightenment.
TTT, what a great tool! I recently got a new (old) laptop from my father. He got it as part of an auction he won. Anyway, it was password protected and I had to get around that.

I remembered this defrag program from last year. Man, what a HUGE difference it made! LOL

    Check out this before shot:
