Finally got the car to the track.....boy do I need to change a lot!

    As I have mentioned, in my build thread and other places, this is my first build at this level.
    Yesterday was a HUGE learning curve. My first pass was a 12.21 with a 1.97 60' holy crap.... a D-9 Cat has a better 60'. With my 4.11 gears and 33x21.5 QTP tires it loads the car down way to much. It takes for ever to get up on the tires.
    1st:
    RT- 1.245 (took my sweet time)
    60' - 1.971
    330 - 5.272
    1/8 - 7.947 @ 92.11
    1000 - 10.246
    1/4 - 12.213 @ 112.28


    2nd:
    RT - .466
    60' - 2.008
    330 - 5.326
    1/8 - 7.987 @ 92.66
    1000 - 10.264
    1/4 - 12.194 @ 116.07

    3rd:
    RT - .432
    60' - 1.836
    330 - 5.052
    1/8 - 7.671 @ 94.01
    1000 - 9.914
    1/4 - 11.814 @ 117.93

    For the 3rd pass we turned the bottle on (225 kit),
    well the micro switch was not set properly and the linkage arm went right on by.
    So the kit only blipped for a nanosecond.

    Went back the pit a fixed the micro switch problem.
    And on the 4th pass.....I broke the rear dif. probably sheered the pinion.
    Car transfered the fell on her face. no go no mo! pulled to the side got pushed back. No leaks that was good. Upon further inspection at the pit found the drive shaft does not turn when the car is pushed. Gonna preform the autopsy this weekend to see for sure what went south.

    As MrDragster and others have mentioned. With my set up I will be leaving some 60' on the table. Hell I left it on the table, on the counter, on the floor, I got buckets of it!

    Here is a video of the 3rd pass. Note that I don't go into high gear till about the 1000'
    Maybe I should have went to Bonneville.

    BTW the car weighs 3710 with both bottles and both tanks full and my big carcass.

    Unfortunately there is a learning curve, generally with a $ amount attached...like you found out. 1/4 mile runs are still respectable for your first time out with the car. Cool!!! Video.

    Overall I felt pretty good for the day. The car went straight and stopped smoothly. I hope it continues to do so as I get quicker.

    Right now I'm thinking spool, steeper gear, and narrower and slightly shorter tire.

    Fix her up, and get back out there, that's all we can do!!!
    Nobody got hurt, nothing super expensive like motor or trans got hurt,
    you probably had a blast finally getting her to the track!!!
    Sounds like a good day of racing, while the rest of us are freezing our ass's off.

    Obviously the old saying is true, it's always something, and you will eventually find the weakest link!!!

    That 225 shot will help get that tank moving.
    For a drag car, that thing is way heavy, wrong gear, and not enough HP, so that 225 will be huge.
    Keep plugging away, and have fun while you can.

    If you decide to make a tire change, look into the 33 x 10.5
    That is a very nice piece, you lose all that bulk, keep your free MPH, and will have more then enough traction.
    The 31 x 10.5 is probably better, but then you change ride height from your QTP's.

    What axles are in that thing?? If you have enough weight & power to hurt the rear, the axles can't be crap!!

    31x10.5 is what I have my eye on now.
    Not sure what gear to put with them though.

    Why do you need 2 bottles???
    I only run 2 bottles for spraying 1000 HP tune up's.

    Gary - One change at a time. Try the 31's and see how it goes.

    I don't think my car is too much different than yours.... 477 cubes, 31" tires, 3600 lbs and 4.10 gears. Foot brake the car runs 1.45 60', 6.50 in the 1/8th and 10.30 @ 130 in the 1/4. I launch at an idle, shift at 6500 and go across the stripe at 6500.

    My shift light is set at 7000.

    As for the two bottle thing, well I originally had run one bottle per kit, but I'm gonna be taking the plate system off and leave the fogger. So one bottle will coming out. Now that I've been to the track and have bitten by "the bug" there are some definite changes to my use/plans for the car. Thought I wanted a show hotrod but this new feeling is right... wanna go faster!
    I broke my car and all I want to do is go back.

    OK, just making sure you weren't running 2 bottles for a 225 stage.
    That is a complete waste of weight, and work heating 2 bottles.

    Didn't we warn you, once you hit the track, you lose 50 IQ points, and 1/2 your savings!!!!!!

    For the record, there are ton's of show drag cars, mine aren't, but I only care about running quick!!!!!!!
