    AC Install

abshire- For a rough comparison: I was talking to my mech yesterday about
AC. He is very experienced and works on a lot of the local collector type cars.
He and one of his employees were in the process of installing Vintage Air (R134) in a 1972 Chev Pickup. The truck did not originally come with air so there was quite a bit of fabrication involved.
I asked about the cost. He said the Vintage Air kit was around $1600. By the time the job is finished he said the total cost will be $3,400 - $3,500.
Last I checked his shop rate was $70.00 hr.

car is a 1977, I found a full vintage air kit for 1350 online and I would do the install myself, my dad was a mechanic and the apple hasn't fell too far from the tree. think that will be my first upgrade lol. mine had factory a/c so fab work wont be a issue. if it is I can do metal work. im excited for the challenge. I love working on stuff. my wife doesn't understand how I can bust my butt working on something and love every minute of it. to me there is no better feeling to be able to jump in a car and be able to use something that I installed.

Its nice to not be pressured to have it done by Monday or the next day for work. When I was a kid they were our daily drivers many times. Enjoy.
