Original belts on my 72 SS are the black plastic with blue logo, 3 x 2.5 inch dimension, two per side ( one for seat belt, one for shoulder belt).

    Thanks for the response,
Couple of other questions, are they the black plastic buckle all round or with a metal base?.
Also the seat belt buckle does it have a plastic sleave up to the buckle on the consul side or are the lose?

I don't know about '72, but for '70 the style of seatbelts depends on trim level in the car. Cars with standard interior have different buckles than cars with deluxe interior.

My 70 Z with the Z87 deluxe interior has the regular black plastic buckles. The brushed stainless AK1 buckle was optional even on the deluxe interior.

As Gary mentioned there is more than 1 type of seat belt/buckle for 1972, standard and deluxe. I believe Dave is correct in that the AK1 deluxe belts were an option on all cars. Deluxe buckles were not metal in 1972 though.
I was thinking AK1 might be on the cowl tag in 72... I just checked and it was A51, not AK1.

1972 was also a transition year on seat belts. Late built 72 Camaro's started using the new 3 point style. So depending on when the car was built it may have that.

Below is a picture from a late built (03D) 1972 RS/SS 396 car I once owned. It had deluxe interior and deluxe seat belts. The Interior in this car is still all original, unrestored.

Buckle is plastic mounted to a chrome metal base. No plastic sheath on inner belts.
