My Camaro is a 70 but I know it doesn’t have the original diff in it because it a 10 bolt posi with 3.73 gears. The decoding numbers don’t make any sense. On the front of the passenger axel housing is stamped PS G62742. That doesn’t match any info in the decoding section. Is it possible the diff is out of a nova? Anyone have any ideas what this diff is. I have included some photos.

PS is the code for a 2.41 posi used by GM on Camaro and Firebird from 1975-1981.

The '70 rear end would have been a 8.2 10 bolt. That is the 8.5 10 bolt. With the posi and 2.41 gear I'd say it was from a Trans Am.

Thanks for the help guys. I did the tire to drive shaft turns, it's got 3.73 gears. Someone at some time replaced the diff housing and put different gears in it.

Gear head, would the bearing kit be the same for the two housings. I have a noise in the rear and it seem to be getting louder. Going to replace the bearings, not sure of the condition of them. Going to inspect the clutches while I'm there.

You need a kit for the 8.5 rear end. The 8.2 uses some different parts.
