I didn't know they made anything but cabs.
That's a pretty cool story. I read a book years ago about the history of GM and it seemed GM typically stayed with in-house divisions for parts and components. And if they didn't have a division that made what they needed, they went out and bought the company that did. But that was in the early years...I guess by the mid-seventies, that had all changed.
It sounds like they were getting ready to buy their assets ..
Checker used a lot of GM parts too. A lot of the cabs that came through my salvage yard had Chevy 6 and V-8 engines.
Always thought the Checkers looked like 55 Chevys up to the end of the cab company.
I always thought '57 Chevy's looked like '56 Plymouth's.
