I want to , well sort of considering putting in a 700 R4 transmission because of the overdrive transmission to save on gas , what's a great gear in the rear-end to give you good gas mileage. But yet be able to get out there with the cars out there today and run with them . But easy on the gas mileage. Any suggestions here on this subject ? Or any suggestions .

Try some online gear ratio/ top speed calculators. depending on your camshaft, engine size, tire diameter and "desired" cruise rpm at highway speed can alter your gear ratio decision. I'm running some 3.42's and 26" tall tires, that gives me a 22-2300 rpm cruise at 65 mph without lockup active on flat highway.

All depends on the rest of the build.

A lot of it depends on your torque converter. I have 3.42’s in the rear, 2800 stall TQ, 700r4. It seems to me that I’m a bit too low in the power band, I need the rpm’s up around 2600 not at 2300 @ 70 mph like it is now. I could easily swap to 4.10 gears & be closer to the power band & still be around 26-2800 rpms @ 70 mph.

I have no problem cruising at 80 mph, 3000 rpm with 4.10's

I was considering the same swap , what l read was 3.73 was the best all around . quick off the line and cruises like it has a 2.6 gear in rearend in overdrive.
The transmission you want would be from a 1991 camaro.
    Just what l read.

I have 3.73 behind a 700-R4, works well for me.

To do the swap you will need a shorter driveshaft, a driveshaft from a mustang is the right size.

Easy to figure the rpm as the over drive ratio is a .7.
.66 is a third, so divide your cruse RPM by 1/3.
3000 rpm cruise is 2000 rpm with a 700R4 installed.
Or another method is to mulitply the rear end ratio by .7.
So a 4;11 will act like a 2.87 ratio with the overdrive.
