Loud squeeze when I start up. Squeal again when I give it gas first time. Then no more. My belts are new & newer

Figure out which one is squealing with a little belt dressing. (That's all belt dressing is really good for. A bar of soap works too.)

    Spray one and start it.
No squeal... You've found the culprit.
Check tension (tighten, if needed) and look how it's riding in the pulley.
V-belts use the sides of the belt for friction, if they bottom out in the pulley, they slip and squeal.

I had a new belt which was made slightly narrow... That belt squeaked until I replaced it.

I have had a couple alternators the last few years that did the same thing until they got worse. They used to squeal on start up, then quit with a stab of the gas pedal, then after a month squealing for 2-3 minutes. If your belt is new and tight, I would start suspecting the alternator.

Loose belt, just tighten the alternator belt and you are good to go.

You are right. My A/C belt is a bit loose--but the unit is maxed out on the adjustable....
I know the belt is correct size for engine. Should I just try to purchase a belt a few mm shorter?

Yes, I would try one a bit shorter if you have adjustment in the other direction.
