I am asking you guys for help since the last time I even thought about a decent aftermarket stereo was in the mid 1980's when I was in high school and bought a $150 Alpine deck and wired it to some home stereo speakers that were my permanent back seat passengers. Now days as far as I am personally concerned as long as it has a working radio and can tune in talk shows its good enough for me. Never put any thought into systems or quality of components. However I am needing to put something together for a 70 I am building that will be sold in the fall. The car will be a mid $30's price point so I am needing direction on a simple quality system that's not total junk that has good bang for the buck value. Thanks for any input.

Is the dash uncut? If so, your options are limited as there aren't many head units around anymore that have shafts and a large enough nose to fill the factory hole. If you are cutting the dash, then a single DIN will work and gives you a ton of options. I have picked up some great deals on Ebay buying Pioneer factory refurbs. You can get a nice $250 head unit for about half price. Depending on speakers...a set of 6x9's on the rear shelf might be all you need. Otherwise you have to cut the door panels, the kick panels or do a lot of underdash work to get a set of 4" under the dash in the front hole. Let us know what you are willing to do, or what has already been done and we can steer you the right way. You can get some very decent sound for not a lot of $$ of you plan it right.

The dash isn't cut but I don't have a problem with cutting it. Willing to do about anything, there isn't a single piece of interior in the car yet, no dash in it yet either.

Great info, Bikefixr. Factory refurbs are great if they're sold by the original manufacture. Got a particular supplier you use?

This thing is kind of cool. It's not a "shaft" style radio, but it kind of has that look to it. The only downfall is it doesn't play CD's, but in today's modern society, who still carries those around? LOL

Not head units but Harmon Audio sells a lot of stuff from their subsidiaries. Keep your eyes peeled.

I bought my entire home audio A/V setup from Harman Kardon..all refurbs. I love factory refurbs. Every one is fully tested, warrantied and about 1/2 the cost or less. I bought $23K worth of Harman Kardon, JBL and Infinity home audio for 15c on the dollar. It took me months to gather it all..waiting for the right pieces. They seem to come in bunches of a few models. I got mine on EBAY. HK has a factory store and they put stuff on a 99c starting auction. I got their top of the line DVD/Blu-ray player for $28 by staying up 'till 3AM on Christmas Eve 2012.

As for car stuff, I have always done well with Pioneer. You can get a nice in-dash unit, DIN with 20w/ch for about $80-100. Evilbay. Mine always come from some outfit in Brooklyn. I just got 4 JBL 6x9 coax's..their top of the line for $89 shipped...for 4. For your Camaro..tell me what you want to do for speaker and then pick the head-unit and amp.
