according to hotrod magazine. It increases you 1/4 time by a tenth so. Might not be noticed but I'm sure it helps pull some cool air Into the engine. Especially when using the air induction seal ring and air cleaner.

IIRC,noted guru Jim Mcfarland determined that a performance 350 engine requires 20sq. in. of intake area. How big is the opening on this hood?

I picked up 2 tenths at the track when I opened up my scoop. I made a sheet metal pan and used foam rubber to seal it against the hood. The problem I had was when I went to the 383 with the Victor Jr. and Doublepumper, I ran out of hood space, so I split the scoop and added 2 inches to the opening, without any increase in ET, but I had clearance and unless you really look close can't you tell it's not stock. If I had to do it again, I probably would have gotten a small diameter air cleaner and made a new air box.

As far as water getting in the opening, a used some screen from a screen door and covered the opening. I never had problems with water getting in to the air cleaner.

If I remember, the opening is something like 1 3/4 by 11 inches, but I may be wrong.

Here's mine and never had issues in rain, but cold weather makes it run like a scolded ape.Drilled holes in the metal cover.
