Just finishing the resto on our 77 LT. I had the bumpers stripped then chromed. They look marvelous, but the job cost $1500. There is an outfit in California who will strip and re-anodize them for $800 per bumper, plus shipping both ways.
If I had met him sooner, I would have Eric Hayes here in the Tacoma area, strip and repolish the bumpers. I can get his phone # to you, pm me.
I didn't powder coat for the reasons already expressed here: yellowing over time, not looking right, and ours were pretty pitted on the undersides. Overall, we're very pleased with the look- maybe a little brighter than the original, but good looking, none the less.

Has anybody cut and tucked the ends in a couple inches to close the gap without having to paint them?

I took a pair already stripped down (by the chromers i used) to a plating co. paid $200 ea and the anodized finish was uneven thru out. So i gave them to my son in exchange for the ones on the doner car. chromed mine as well. This was 2015.
