Yes.....that's the same as mine....the three ridges with inspection hole.. During Sean's 74 Z28 restoration thread , he took the engine out, and he sent me a picture close up of the timing cover....I was curious...his was the same, welded on. His car was HEI series too. Our engines looked the same far as I could tell. Except his was auto trans car. Both tab and cover were one piece painted orange pressed steel unit .

Maybe Ron and George can chime in.

Once we got access to the front of the engine to get a look at the tab I was sorta disappointed because I'd been hearing about the bolt on tab( this welded one I cannot find in the parts books). I saw it has the 8" torsional damper and expected the bolt on. I think I like this better, one more controversial part that doesn't exist or shouldn't or can't be there right lol.
I think the list is up to about 140 part numbers for sp. Hi/perf 350 parts.

    Not sure about 1973 engines....but
My early 74 corvette motor LS4 has never been out of the car or torn down ...knock on wood...I just tuned her up this summer and that motor has a orange pressed steel cover with welded on tab with hole too :)

My car has the welded front cover. It appears to have a 74 date code stamped in it too. I will get a few pictures to post.

I checked my timing cover and it has a welded tab too. My 74 Z28 was builded in September 73 and came original with a point distributor.

I didn't have time to look for a PN or date when we worked on it last. I'll look this weekend if I get a chance.

My car has the bolt on and when I took it off it still had what remained of the factory sticker with part # stuck between it and the cover. It definitely came that way from the factory. 03C build and its a 4 speed.
I know you can still find these timing tabs out there NOS.
