Does anyone know the part number or dimensions of the front sway bar for 70 L78.
The L78 used the same size sway bars as all other 70 Camaro's except the Z28. Pretty sure there were only 2 sway bars available on the early 2nd gen Camaro's, standard sport coupe and the Z28.
Going from memory here, I believe the standard size was 7/8" diameter and 1" diameter on the Z28. Never seen a part number on them.
Front bar without F41 should be 15/16".
Z28, SS396, and any other Camaro ordered with F41 should have the 1" front bar.
Wondering where you found the info Gary?
I just looked through 1970 Camaro AMA Specifications and only thing I could find was 1" for Z28... It actually shows 11/16" diameter for non-Z28 but that sure doesn't seem correct!
Lots of good info the AMA Specs but I know there are discrepancies.
The info below is on the Z/28 suspension page but looks like it applies to all Camaros. I don't see any sway bar specs in the general 1970 Suspension page. The linked page shows the same part number for both bars. I think Gary's comment is correct that the size of the bar is dependent on whether a car has the F-41 suspension or not.....not determined by the model.
1970 Camaro (exc spec perf susp) front, 0.938" diameter (Part #3984557)
1970 Camaro (8cyl, w/spec perf susp) front, 1.00" diameter (Part #3984557)
Thanks for all the input. Now I have to find my original or buy one.
There should be lots of the 1" front bars around. Many of the later Second Gens had the 1" bar. From what I"ve seen, the Second Gen Camaro used only 3 different sizes of bars. The early cars used 15/16" and 1". The later cars used 1" for most standard Camaros and 1.25" for Z28 and rarely the 15/16". Just measure before you buy to make sure it is the 1".
