all 400s were externally balanced. Don't think he's got two cranks but he's just saying he's got a stock crank made by eagle as opposed to a 'stroked' crank. Big fan of ARP but don't need a stud kit really unless you're going to really put it to her on the motor down the road. Nonetheless, i'd rather have studs in any case if i had to choose. Like anything, its a roll of the dice when they tell you the block is good, no cracks, etc. We all roll the dice and come out good at times or bad. I like virgin gen 1 blocks so i'd bring a caliper with me to see for myself if you bit on this. better yet, if you've got a dial bore gauge, calibrate it to 4.125 and bring it with you. Lastly, i think the region an item sells in is basically the market. Around here in TN, i see 400s but they want an arm and a leg for them. $400 for the block, crank, balancer........not too bad but you could probably get him down a little..

I suspect this is an estate sale. I don't have a dial bore gauge but do have a caliper. I will give him a call. Hate to pass this block up if it is real especially if it is a 75 or older stamping

Well passed on the 400 block posted above it had some bad pitting where the oil goes and did not look to stellar when i peeked into the water jackets. But when it rain it pours another 400 can up it is out of a 77 GMC truck guy is saying it ran when he pilled it and only wants $250 for it.

Just not sure it the 77 block is as strong as the older castings.

That may have been pulled out of a 77, but it looks to be a wide pad motor, which means it was transplanted. That might be worth a little closer look.

It would be great if you could see the suffix code.
