I have a 1977, as far as I can tell its all original, paint and all, looks to be the real deal. I was looking at the VIN over the weekend and didn't see anywhere that says its a Z28. Any help would be great. Thanks

77 Z28 often don't read z28 on the trim tag. Mine dosnt but the build sheet dose. the other ive seen dose read z28 on the trim tag. after looking the two cars if its option bombed it wont.

The "L" means it was built at the Van Nuys plant. It won't say "Z28", only on the Norwood built cars (both of mine). If it's mostly original check for the build sheet. That will confirm it's true identity.

Yeah, only Norwood cars has those indications on the trim tag. Your best bet is the vin as I think in 77 the engine code was specific to the z28.

The "8" designation on the LA cars for Z28 didn't show up until 1978 or possibly very late in the 1977 production year. Don't expect to find it on a '77.

Well I've learnt something new. I can a test to what there saying the car with the z28 on the tag was norwood.
The build sheet can be under the front seat or ontop of the gas tank aswell. Hears hoping yours is in the back seat. I pulled one of a tank yesterday on my 78 they just get ruined down there.

Thanks again. I looked under all 4 seats tonight, no luck. I don't think its under the dash anywhere either. So eventually Ill have to take up the carpet and/or drop the tank.

My build sheet for my 77 Z was in the springs of the rear seatback. Check there before giving up! Remove the set bottoms and unbolt the bottom of the seatback. You can then reach up and feel if there is any paper under the metal springs.
