Hello all, I'm brand new to this forum and I had some question about a 1971 RS VIN and block id/vin numbers matching and exactly what it is. My stepfather passed away in April and among many auto parts and a few classic autos is this camaro, which from my research on this site appears to be an original RS package. I'm trying to figure out if the motor is original, the VIN # is 124871L513017, which tells me it's a V-8 built at the Van Nuys plant. The block ID # is V0310CGC, which from this site appears to be either a El Camino or Full Size, the partial VIN on the block is 11L513017. What I can't determine is whether this is actually the original motor and whether it's a 307 or 350. It has a 2 barrel carb. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

The partial VIN on the engine matches the VIN of the car so that is the original engine in that car. I have a book that shows CGC as a 350 2bbl engine offered for 1971 Camaro, so it would be correct for the car.
There is probably no single source that has a complete of all the engine codes, so check more than one place and you will likely find what you need.

Thank you Gary much appreciated. Now I need to figure out it's approximate value for insurance purposes. It runs and drives after all these years, nice paint (not original), interior has been re-done, but I don't think it was a complete restoration. A nice driveable car that needs minor work.

I will try do to get some pics posted in the next few days. I've had my hands full with all the other motors, parts, and accessories that my late stepfather had collected over 50 years. I had to clear a path just to get the camaro out of the gaarage lol.
