I have been troubleshooting my wiper system almost since I wired it in. I must have read every post here and other sites as well as the wiring drawing from AAW.

The wires are color coded properly and match the drawings I've seen here.

When the color coded wires are placed according to wiring, drawings, and even the original color coded blue & dark blue wires, THE SWITCH WORKS BACKWARDS! Off is on right, Hi is on left.

I have ALMOST come to the conclusion that the 1970 switch is "upside down" in it's mounting bracket, or the wiring is slightly different for the first models or I am in wiring hell and have just got it backwards.

This is the backside of the cluster cover:

This is how the switch mounts on the carrier cover. See the alignment tab?

This is the front view, switch on proper "HI" speed.

This is the appearance from the back of the switch.
The colors from the left would be black, light blue and dark blue:

This is from Brent's pdf file. See the switch orientation?
I think mine would be the same if I turned the switch upside down.
Instead of that, I plan to swap the two end wires around tomorrow and try it.

Just one question. The drawing you show is for the non-hideaway wipers. Is that what your car has?

If you bought your wiring from American Auto Wire I would suspect that- I just experience wire hell from them- my fuse block harness was wired wrong, and so was my gauge cluster harness my headlights would not work. Good luck I feel your pain

Update...the wiper works properly by using the switch from right (OFF) to left (HI) so I reversed the black and light blue wires at the back of the switch and it operates properly now.

Left (OFF) middle (LO) right (HI).

Now I have to figure out why the washer, which worked before, is making noise but not squirting!

I put a kit into the washer, and it works great! No oil pan leak, either!

    Ain't life grand? :)
