    Hey all.
Need a paint code for the blackout panel on the SS cars.
Looks like a satin black but GM must have had a code.
Looks like it runs right into the weatherstrip gutter also.
    Can anyone confirm?
    Thanks!

I went thru this exercise several years ago and although there was not a lot of information, there was a lot of opinions. I have some pictures in thread #13 of the link flowjoe gave above. - I read thru a lot trying to decide what was correct and ended up using a general black semigloss with some flattener in it. I'm sure it is not technically "officially" correct, but it was perfect for what I had in mind. - The previous owner of my car painted it a gloss black, which was way to shiny for my tastes ( It looked like a gloss black with a clearcoat ) - When I sandblasted and splatter painted the trunk, I took the opportunity to redo the tail panel to my liking.

The general concensus seems to be somewhere between "flatter than gloss and glossier than flat"

    Good Luck !

There MAY be some survivors at MCACN this year. I'm heading up there. I'll look around and try to get some photos.
I'll assume for now the 69's and 70-72's were the same on this.

I wonder if that black is similar to the black used on the rocker panels on the LT models during '73 & '74.

    That would be gloss.

Of the original big block cars I've seen, the rear panel was NOT full gloss but did have a shine to it.
When I had mine repainted, I had it reduced to 80% or a 20% reduction. The shop that painted my car had a gloss level chart showing the different percentages for black.
