What are the differences between a 1970 L78 and a normal base Camaro? Is there a brake hold off on the frame like a first gen? Thanks!

The 70 L78 uses the same 0ptional power disc brakes system as the base model could have. Base models had manual brakes and could be ordered with Power brakes. Power disc brakes are part of the SS package. Other differences are in the drivetrain and suspension and special high performance 396 cu. in. engine. Base models received a 10 bolt rear axle and the L78 received a 12 bolt either 3.55 or optional 4.10 ratio. Go here to this section and it gives you a lot of information on all the 2nd gen models and options.http://www.nastyz28.com/camaro.html

    Welcome aboard Dustin,

You should be able to find some great information here and also gain insight from a lot of very knowledgeable members on this forum.

If you are trying to identify if a car is truly an L78, that can be soemwhat of an uphill battle, but you can look for a few things to help narrow it down. - First check the cowl tag, located on the horizontal firewall area just below the drivers side windshield wiper ( hood up ). If it's a Norwood built Camaro, it will almost undoubtedly display L78 on the tag. If it's a Van Nuys built car, the tag will be a different shape and would not indicate L78. - There are a few telltale items to look for to establish if it was a 396 car, but only two ways I can think of off the top of my head that would help distinguish if it has the correct characteristic of an L78.

Post up some pics and some more details and we'll be glad to help you out.

Just wanted to know a few of the differences, don't have a particular car to take pics of! Been using the site a lot lately just doing research and I love it! Thanks for the replies!
