Good question.. I can't recall if they were triangled or dimpled on the end for self-locking feature or not. It would seem to reason that they would be.

As I recall, AMK has a kit. Nuts are regular phospated hex nuts and I believe a split lockwasher is used. Based on the originals I removed, the AMK kit seemed correct.

I'm pretty sure standard hex nuts and lock washers were used as the factory fasteners.

My fasteners are from AMK too but can't recall what they were. Unfortunately they're not even visible once everything is together.
Logic seems that the assembly line process would use a 1 piece nut to simplify things but not always I guess.

I do seem to recall always using a lock washer & nut during my younger years when I was pulling the engine & trans frequently because I was... ummm always pushing the limits ;)

Washers and nuts were all I ever remember finding, but I never had a car that I knew was 100% untouched in the transmission area. Somebody had always had it out at least once before I arrived.

Page 83 of the 1973 assembly manual only says 'nut and P. washer'. I can not find a definition for P. washer.
