Tremec TKO600 fitment
Could use some advice from all who installed a TKO trans in your Camaros. I've stuffed a TKO600 into my '78 Z28 and find that the top of the trans is hitting against the RH side of the tunnel near the front of the trans. I've pulled the tailshaft down a bit, but too far and the U-joint angle is going to get too big. I've also noticed that the top of my fan is touching the fan shroud. I can adjust the shroud up, but the bottom of the shroud pulls out of the goofy J-clips at the bottom of the radiator support. Is it possible that my engine is sitting too high? I've got Energy Suspension poly mounts on it, but the stock metal brackets. I'm thinking that dropping the engine 1/2" or so would do the trick. Does anyone make a mount or the brackets that will lower the engine so I can get the trans off the tunnel? Any other tricks for lowering the engine a bit?
THANKS

You know, I remember reading something about the poly mounts sitting the engine taller than the rubber stock mounts. You might want to do some searching in the archives on that one...
I finally got my TKO bolted in yesterday & with my rubber engine mounts & poly trans mount the TKO is still tight in the tunnel. It JUST clears everything. I did have to cut my tunnel to clear the standard shifter though...

Thanks, Big Mouse. I think I'm going to replace the body bushings and get a set of rubber engine mounts and see if that does the trick.

The TKO instructions from Jeff & CC5S discuss the body bushings as a possible cause of interference. I'm sure you have done a search and read those as well. He posted a "how-to" a while back.
I'm running solid aluminum body mounts. I know guys have done it, but I can't image how tight it would be if I had wedged my front subframe... now I'm glad I didn't do it. On my particular car, I think I would have had rubbing. I'm sure every car is a little different depending on the cars history.

The first thing I did when I installed my TKO was to replace all my body mounts. Had I not done this I would have had a problem with the trans rubbing the body. As it is now it is close but has never tuched. I now have around 4000 miles and no problems.

Garrett,
The 2 suggestions above by towhog & Big Mouse are the places Id start. I have nothing to compare to because I had Keisler (where I bought my tranny) modify the stock x-member. I had already done the body mounts & the motor mounts are 34 years old as far as I can tell.

Thanks to all! I sent a message to the gang at pro-touringf-body.com to order a set of mounts. I'll toss the poly engine mounts and put in good old-fashioned rubber units. I'm hoping those will do the trick.
