Opinions - 71SS Purchase(PArt 2) - Decoding help

I have had some good help so far on this purchase in which the trim tag denotes Z27 - Super sport.

Now asking for a question on VIN & engine code. The engine code I got is

T0222CJD - Which thru this site says Tonawanda (Feb 22) 270HP/SS
Great!

Now the Dash panel VIN : 124871N544848

Engine Block partial VIN : 11N544849

My question - the first and last #'s don't match, I cleaned these up and looked hard. They are very close as you can see. Is it possible the assembly line workers crossed up stamping the 8 & 9, and the 1 & 7 ???????
Or does this say the block doesn't match ??

What am I missing here.

OK,

On the Engine VIN, I figure that the first two #'s - 11 is OK

that stands for Chevrolet and 1971,

So the only question is the last digits of the two VIN's

the 8 & 9

thanks

Congrats! You have a true 71SS!! Although I do not have a build sheet for my matching numbers 71SS, because it says Z27 on the trim tag and I also have a CJD block I can say beyond a resonable doubt that yours and mine are both ture SS cars.

Regarding the VIN, I would not worry about it. I would still consider it "numbers matching" or at least "original motor".

My situation is similar but with the tranny. The VIN is off by one number. The dash, door sitcker, and motor on my 71SS show 1N502145 but the tranny shows 1N502146. See my post from a few months back when I had the motor and trans out:

The experts on here determined to be a mix-up on the production line yet I am still considering the tranny to be numbers matching/original.

Have you checked your tranny number yet?
