Authentic or historic plates - Any hassles?
I was wondering if anyone is using or knows anyone who is using historical plates on their cars and if they get much hassle from the police on how they are using the car? The historic plates are restricted use, no "routine transportation", only club events, car shows, parades, etc. Now I'm lucky if I put 200 miles a year on the car and most of the time I'm driving it to a Auto-X or such (which should qualify), BUT I usually drive it to work a couple times a year and of course a couple late night cruises. I could obviously say I just did some work and was out "test driving", but if there is constant hassle, it wouldn't be worth it. Actually I would be using the Authentic Plate variety as my Dad has plates going way back and still has his plates from '79 (FRONT and rear, remember that?). Yes, my car is an '80, not a '79, but the plates are the correct era and the black and white would look much better IMO. Any thoughts or info?
Here is the style plate I'm talking about :

See all the plates back to '69 here BTW:

I have them on 4 different cars. No problems at all. I drive them anytime I want to. Plus they are good for as long as you own the car, and they don't have to be renewed every year.

I have authentic plates, never had a problem, but I heard last year at Woodward they were stopping cars the week before the cruise with those plates.

No. The plate year has to match the cars manufacture date. You will need an 80 plate.

I have an authentic 79 plate on my 79z and was pulled over out of town by a state cop, he never said a word about the plate, or ask where I was going or coming from.

Never had a problem with a 73 plate on my 73, but I don't drive it much. I have a historic plate on a 64 vette that I do drive a bit more and no problems with that either. The historic plates are only good for ten years now. Anyone from the Ortonville area?

I have the historical plates on my 79 and when that expires about 7 years from now I have a vintage 79 plate ready for it. I think I got the hist. plate as soon as the car was old enough. The car is in pieces now, but I drove it from Muskegon to Flint with the historical plate and never had an issue. Got pretty good gas mileage with the new street avenger carb too, but thats another topic.

Historic plates
here in NJ I get stopped every once in a while. It's always because the cop just wanted to check out the car. I've never been hassled on driving the car whenever and wherever I want.

Have the historic and drove from Canton to Frankenmuth several times without a problem. No problem around town either.
