97 camaro engine and a 79 camaro

Glad I found a 2nd gen F-body board. I recently bought a 79 camaro that I'm picking up tomorrow that has a 97 camaro engine coming with it on the side and not in the car. I'm used to thirdgen camaros. Anyone here know of anyplace I can find info on doing the transplant or otherwise have some advice to help me out?

I believe the 97's still had the LT1's, correct? If so, go to my website (in my sig) and click on the EFI swapper's guide. Although it deals mainly with the L98 third gen engine, it does touch on LT1 stuff, and for the most part, the swap involves the same kind of work. You only need to interpolate some of the info to make it applicable to the LT1. Good luck.

And theflash is right. Welcome to your new addiction indeed! MUWAHAHAAHHAHAHAH!!!!!

It will fit. The engine still had the same bellhousing pattern and engine mount pattern. You will have to deal with an Opti-Spark, but it's do-able. Get the wiring harness and computer if you can. It will make your life easier. It is an OBD-II system so you will need to do modifications to allow for the catalytic converter(s) and all 4 oxygen sensors. There will be one on each downpipe, one before the cat, and one after the cat.

Go to www.thirdgen.org theres lots of LT1 ('93-97 Z28/Formula/Trans Am) swap info there. Its all for 3rdgen Camaros and Firebirds, but 99% of the stuff still applies to 2ndgen Camaros just the same.

I've been going to that site for a while as RedTtop5spd. I commonly hang out in the v6 forum.
