Dual snorkel air cleaner

Will a dual snorkel air cleaner from an early Z28 (70-74) fit a 79Z with a 4-bbl holley? Thought I read a thread awhile ago that said it would not clear the HEI distributer.

That's a GOOD dual snokel setup that is non-restrictive (unlike most factory setups which really don't flow all that well). It, likewise, won't clear an HEI but the surround is made of fiberglass so you can easily trim it to fit with a Dremel or similar.

Dual snorkel air cleaner

What about the open element type that came on 73-74 corvettes? Are the housings the same as the Z28? What year did HEI start?

With a little massaging. I believe this is a 74+ corvette bottom and I used a top from a normal V8 15 1/2 air cleaner instead of the higher top. (I picked up both at a swap meet for about $10.) The rear comes factory indented to fit the HEI. I've got a 2" custom diameter K&N filter inside. And I had to notch and seal 2 areas on the underside to clear the Holley float adj screws. It fits under the stock hood. But I don't know if I'm going to continue to use it. It may be a bit restrictive on the air flow.
