Recovering custom interior seatbacks

I am in the midst of recovering a set of 78 or 79 Custom/z28 seats (the ones with the cloth on the seat surface). I have the rear seats and bottom seat cushions done, but the seatbacks are giving me trouble. These are the zipperback seats and even after heating them up well to help them stretch and messing with them for a while, I cannot seem to get enough room to put my hand in there and clip a hog ring in to hold the top of the seat cushion to the foam. I am talking about the channel between the bolsters and the middle part of the cushion. Is there a trick to this?

Just figured I would ask, and thanks for any help...
