That's a fun conversion!
Tight, a pain in the ass but once you get it in and running, WOW!
We did one back in the early 90's and had a blast with it but could not get it legal for California so we sold it to a guy in Nevada or Arizona.

I highly doubt you'll be in the 11's and maybe not even 12's with a 270hp crate engine. Just because you can smoke little 195/70-14's isn't that impressive.
Maybe if you car looks like this

My brother puts different engines into Fieros- small blocks, 4.3L V6s, Northstar V8s, older aluminum 4.9L Caddy pushrod motors (pre-Northstar) and his "keeper" which has a 3.4L Twin Dual Cam out of a Lumina Z-34 plus nitrous. Originally designed as an autocross car with lots of suspension mods and very light weight, it regularly spanked 800HP VIpers around the autocross course. On the dragstrip it would run high 12s on the bottle (55HP shot), mid 13 on motor- and get 30 MPGs to ande from the track.

78 Malibu. Inherited with only 35K on the odo! Mild 383 with Weiand 142 blower on top. Mid 12s appears to be the best it's gonna do on street rubber. Runs so good I may never drive it again.

I saw a 454 BB conversion in one years ago that was done by a place in KCMO down at the O'Reilly Ozark Fall Nats at Springfield, MO one year!!
Sucker looked like it growed in there..
Last time I was down there I saw a pair of Northstar conversions that looked stock!!!

What kind of transmission do you use for a V8 conversion?

So why can't GM build the new Camaro on a platform like that? Mid engine, six speed OD (standard or auto trans), four wheel independet suspension, with EFI? And a super charged or turbo charged version optional?
IMHO, the new 09 Camaro is ugly, not imagination (front engine rear wheel drive old technology) and will be priced about $10K too high. It'll have lackluster sales for those reasons and more.
