Another LSX thread with questions
I have been messing with the idea of a LT1 383, but today I guess I finally gave into what I have been really wanting the whole time, an LS1 or LS6 with a 4L60E.
I have not seen this discussed before but for those of you who have done the LS1 swap what senors did you have to still use to get the engine to work? I know these engines have lots of computer and sensor stuff but what is needed to allow the engine to operate?
Thanks guys!

I'm still in the planning stage but I do have a friend that recently completed the swap into his Nova. He basically just purchased a LS1 and 4L60E complete combo from a 2000 Camaro. It was complete with wire harness, computer, etc. All he had to do was send the wiring harness out to have it reworked. The guy that did the work already knew what to keep and what to remove so it pretty much made everything painless.
There is also a bunch of knowledge over at the www.ls1tech.com website. There is even a section decicated to conversion projects.

I would go with Jeramy's suggestion.

Kinda defeats the whole purpose of putting an LS1 in place I would think.
You're better off building up a Gen I SBC in that case and putting a 700R4 or 2004R behind it.
I priced the carb intake out, it's not cheap at all.
As far as what sensors you still keep.....to the best of my knowledge everything except the 2 rear O2 sensors IIRC.
My implant is still sitting and waiting for 3 damn fuel fittings.

sensors you need
MAP,Crank and Cam position sensors,Front O2, Coolant temp sensor, Throttle position, MAF(I went with a SD tune so I did not need this sensor), IAT, Knock sensors.
hope I am not forgetting anything.

Thanks, that clears a few things up. The LS1 bug bit me and now it's all I can think about, well almost...
I do agree with Aces, cannot believe I just said that, but carbing an LS1 really does defeat the whole purpose.

Hold on a minute. If it's just FI you want, there are many ways to go about that. The LSX series of engines offers much more than that and I would argue, even with a carb, the swap may be worth it. Where else are you going to find a six bolt aluminum block with heads that flow like and LS6 for the kind of money you are talking about for just the engine swap?? Also, the GM performance carb intake can be upgraded to FI quite easily as it has bosses to do so. That way, you don't have to bite off both an engine swap and a FI conversion at the same time which would include mods to the fuel tank (likely a replacement). Get the motor in the car, try the carb set up. If you don't like it. Sell the intake and buy the LS6 intake and either go stand alone or salvaged harness, computer etc when time or money permits.

I think you could do the swap in stages using a carb. Then you can do the fuel part later. It's not what I woud do, but it is an option. Resell the carb parts - you could probably recoup most of the costs. The more I read on the LSx, the beter it sounds. Those heads, 6 bolt mains, damn.

I am after all the LSx has to offer, not only fuel injection, but aluminium heads and block, a modern highly efficient engine, multiple performance upgrades available. Plus all the other stuff I mentioned. If I am going to do it, then I am going to do it all the way. Seems like the best plan just to do the right thing first.
