Guys, need a hand about 74 Camaros emblems.
Why some Camaros have the "Camaro" and "350" emblems on the fender and others do not? I mean, if they both came out like this from the factory what is the criteria here?
One more: the correct emblem for the rear is "type lt" or "Camaro" or both are corrects? Again, what is the criteria?
Below there's a nice picture that I decided to share with you. Hope you enjoy it.

Fender: smooth, cutout or indent!
I've been researching this for years and here's what I've come up with:
Early '74s had a SMOOTH fender, just like all the 70-73s.
Later '74s started using the 75 production fender when Chevy ran out of all their 74s. They still used the same 74 intakes for the rest of the year.
Early '75s had the cutout with the cold air hookup to the fender.
Later '75s switched the cold air inlet to the radiator plate and stopped the cutout and went with the indent. The indent fender was used late '75 onward and is still the reproduction version.
Here are the VIN ranges I've narrowed the changes to:
74: 120338-19837?: smooth
74: 211279-249460: open
75: 500622-568577: open, cold air on fender
75: 573096-624870: open, cold air on radiator
75: 633176: the only original 75 I've seen with the indent.
I've got a crapload of Ebay pics to back this up (questionable cars have been omitted). If you can narrow the VIN ranges with reasonable original Camaros I'd appreciate it. Just send me an email with the documentation.
I just love seeing the "original" early '74 with an indented fender; original my ass! No 74 ever had the indent, it never existed until the late-75 model run.

nagr,
In 74, 6cyl sport coupe camaros got just the Camaro script emblem on the fender, the 8 cyl sport coupe got the Camaro script with the 350 badge under it, the LT which only came with the v8 got no fender badge ("Type LT" badge on pillars and right side tail panel - no "Camaro" badge at all) , the Z28 came with either the Z28 badge on fender or the 3 stripe kit but not both...although there's been some claims of this - if this is so it's most likely because the stripes were added at the dealer after the fender badging was done from the factory.

Z28 Air Cleaners
Ok, I remember there was a thread on 1974 Z28 air cleaners. I can't find it anymore. It had pictures comparing an HEI air cleaner with a non-HEI air cleaner, big dent or little dent. So, is there in fact 2 different air cleaners for Z28's in 1974 due to the ignition change to HEI??? Let's discuss...

here's a post. One guy says there were indeed 2 different dual snorkel air cleaners, while another guy towards the end of the thread says the aircleaner was the same for HEI and points. I am tending to believe there were 2 different dual snorkel air cleaners for the 74 z/28. The one with HEI having a bigger indentation than the other.

Thanks Mike! I posted pictures under the Original Drivetrain topic. They clearly show 2 different distributor "dents".

My 74 has an indent in the pass fender. Car has points and no cat. Vin number 1764xx. Is that considered early?

Good topic..just saw this. Just picked up a 74 about a month ago. The original color is the metallic red and it came with the weenie 350 in it and a tH350. Standard black interior. Its a no frills car but its about 99% rust free. Pic is my avatar until I can get new ones. I too have that cutout in the fender. I wondered what it was for. Do the cold inductino air cleaners still exist? I would like to see what one looks like.
Later!
Mike

Does anyone make or refinish the 74 bumpers? Or does anyone have a mint bumper? - just the anodized aluminum part.

They must be 'redone' by a process called R4 Brite Dipping. I sent mine down to a company in North Hollywood CA. It is called Ano-Brite. I built a wooden box to ship them down and back. They look brand new. The harder part was finding NOS impact strips. Finally found them on e-bay. I have spoken on this topic before on this site. Sorry for repeating.

Thanks. Found them on the web. Mind if I ask how much it cost you?
