What class are you racing in?

If you are in C Prepared, you want to run a 16" wheel, prefferably 12" wide, but 10" will work. You'll want to run a byass-ply autocross slick like the Hoosier.

If you are in another class, like Street Mod you'll want a DOT approved slick. I'm running the Kuhmo 710s on my Street Mod car.

If you are running in a street tire class, you'll want the Falken Azenis RT615. This is a very compitent street tire with a tread raiting of 140. I raced on these last year and they are pretty much the fastest street tire you can get for this sort of thing. You just have to spray them down between runs on hot days.

I also daily drove on them, so you could use it as a multi-purpose tire.

your kidding right? of course not. we always leave our camaros with stock wheels and 70 technology tires. LOL

pic below. this is about the cheapest way to do it, i have found.

17x9 steel rears 60.00 5" bs
17x8 steel fronts 55.00 4.5" bs

kuhmo tires 285/40/17's rear and 245/45/17's front. i am switching to 255/40/17's in the front soon. should have no real fitment issuese

hey all. what a great response. thanks.

Paul, i am running in super street. I can`t put it in c class because i put a full frame in it and made my own shock mounts. with all the points i get for mods i am over the limit. in scca i gave handicaps to corvettes and wrx`s. i am compettitive in super street. if losing by tenths can be called that. also, the tire i want should have phony tread. just there for looks. or at least huge blocks of tread.

67lemanster nice camaro, and john thanks for the beer.

of course in a perfect world i`d have 17x10 in wide rims all the way around. all 4 tires the same size. i don`t like bustin tires down to rotate them. and i want more of a trans-am racing look to the car. i may flare the wells.

This thread is worthless..........without pics.

Welcome to the site. With the right ride height/wheel backspacing you might be able to run the same size all around.

You want the widest Kuhmo V710 you can fit under the stock lips. I would suggest a 15" rim, just for cost, but you can upgrade to a 17 and still have fun.

Technically, you're not legal for SS, so changing out the rims from a size other than stock is the least of your worries.

You should be in a Mod class. C-Mod maybe?

anywhere in the country. This class is designed for the enthusiast that wants to modify their engine swap or O.E.
outfitted automobile in the guidelines listed below. Class/category designation is SS.
3.1 Authorized Modifications
3.1.1 All Restricted Street modifications are allowed.
3.1.2 All Street Modified modifications are allowed.
3.1.3 Bumper braces/supports may be removed or replace by a lighter replacement. If using a lighter
replacement it must retain factory mounting location.

the engine management system. Example: Fuel controllers that modify the signal coming from an
airflow sensor.
3.4.1.3 Fuel pressure regulators may be replaced.
3.4.1.4 VTEC controllers and other devices may be used which alter the timing of factory standard electronic
variable valve timing systems.
3.4.1.5 Boost controllers are not allowed (must go to Unlimited Street).
3.4.2 Allowed: Driveline/Engine modifications:
3.4.2.1 Camshaft replacement.

linkies no workie cool car in your profile page though. looks like you have brake ducting to through the front spoiler. what did you use at the caliper/rotor. or did you just tie off a piece of ducting to funnel air to your caliper/rotor

My .02
Find the lightest 15x10" wheel and run that.
the weight saved over a 17" wheel will greatly affect the handling for the better.
of course good luck finding a racing tire wider than a 225/45 in a 15"

yeah the 15 inch racing tires are for fwd cars. they don`t have the load range for my old boat.
and wow, the links work for me, that sucks. i painted it and did all the body work. i sewed a 19 piece carpet. i made door panels from scratch. my wife made the headliner. took me forever to find a pic for my profile smaller than 60.5kb.
and i had the duct attatched to the dust shield for the front rotor, but on the test drive i ripped them up. now they just point at the caliper til further development. it don`t matter for timed runs cause one hot lap won`t overheat the brakes. it`s 3 laps of practice that heats em up. i do have a few pics on the internet that other people took. i`ll try them.

no matter what you want to run the smallest rim you can.
have you thought about getting stock car slicks?

no, the smallest rim won`t help anything. driving the car i know my biggest limitation is grip. i want a 275/40 series tire on my car at all 4 corners. the last 4 yrs of racing tells me i need a tire that don`t roll on it`s sidewall. 4 sets of front tires, none have made it over a thousand miles. all the outside edges are gone. center tread brand new. i run with two degrees of negative camber. i run 55 psi on the track. any lower psi and it starts to wear where there ain`t no tread.
gary forman- my competition- has 275/40/17 on his 96 impala. runs them at 40 psi. and they don`t roll onto the sidewall. and the 91pontiac formula and the 02 camaro run simular tires- same rim size-17. i run a 225/50/15 dunlop 8000 up front and it begs me not to drive the car. it was a nitto before that and a goodrich ta then a eagle gt.all these tires suck. and if i gotta cut the fender to the hood i am gonna have tires hookn under this b#@ch next year.

If you have to stick with the 140 treadwear raiting, I have to insist you go with the Falken Azenis RT615.

There are a lot of sizes available, and they have a very wide footprint. Get some heat in them, and they stick like glue. They are the best street tire short of going ot a full DOT legal slick like the v710. Falken also improved the design over the old 215s, making them more tollerant and forgiving of heat generated by lager cars. They have very stiff sidewalls and are happy with -2* of camber.

YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
