LS1 Swap

I'm getting ready to do a ls1/t56 swap into my auto 70. Is there anywhere I can get information on all the prep work I have to do to make this work? Like, is the stock radiator sufficient? Do I need an in tank fuel pump, or can I go with an inline pump. Do I need stock pedals or can I use pedals from a 4th gen F-body. etc, etc. Is there any place that has all the answers?

Is there any place that has all the answers?

For starters you gotta use the "Search" function of the site.

1. No. I recommend an LS1 radiator from Ebay new or used out of a 4th gen for best bang for the buck.

2. Either or, but in tank from what I have heard is better.
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showth...a l+Fuel+pump
http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50775

3. Pedals changeout for what ?? Stock works fine unless you're doing the LS2 with the drive by wire setup as far as I know.

4. No 1 place has ALL the answers. You need to search the site with specific searches or search LS1tech.com , however as a warning that site is sooooo slow for gettin good responses. I posted an LS1 parts list a few times already. Do a search in this section and I'm sure you'll find it.

Why change the radiator?
Are the inlet/outlets similar?
Im gonna hopefully do this swap someday myself, and I'd hate to waste more $$ than I'd have to. Especially considering how $$ this is anyways!

Good question. I can't remember but I think I asked this on LS1tech and they said it was "recommended". I don't recall if it's NECESSARY though. I just wanted the LS1 fans setup and I got the radiator for only $127 off ebay brand new. So figured what the hell....why not??

X pauliber I also have talked to 3 guys over on LS1tech that have done this swap with late and early 2nd gens
and they all recommended these headers. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

They are also available for only $289 or so in NON ceramic coated. Those are the ones the guys used, but I want ceramic coated.
Also, goto this site for the fuel filter setup is a GS822 99+ corvette single line, + compression fittings. See on page 115 lower right.
http://www.hotrodlane.cc/onlinecatal...talog2006.html They want $167, and told me the compression fittings are $35 each x2 plus a $22 quick disconnect. So I'm pricing these things out to see if they are this costly separately.
I'm going to price this out today since I am ordering more parts today. Just got teh headers from Summit.

s&p prices are outrageous you can find most of their items cheaper elsewhere (for ex. the 99 vette fuel filter/regulator is about $55 at the dealer, $39 if you've got a buddy at the counter, and well over a $100 from s&p). goto ls1tech in their conversion and hybird section. lots of guys doing 2nd gens (me too) at the top of that section are a few good posts(sticky's in yellow) that have info about fuel systems, cooling, mounting, etc. headers get the pacsetters non coated ($285 summit for 98-02 f body off-road no egr) cause you will need to modify the drivers side collector a little, then get them coated

I just had one question. How about the mounting brackets (engine)? I do know s&p do make these. They also have a second one which mounts the engine 1 inch furthur back. Has any one tried it.

The website above gives a good pallpark range of price and problems.

In that link you posted above about the firebird, do you know who that is or how to get in contact with that person?

Thanks for all the great info on your page Schitzo. Is your homepage stickied anywhere? It has alot of good info.

Also, does anyone have templates for the motor mounts or the bracket to mount the clutch master cylinder? I'm trying to save money wherever I can, and fabbing these brackets myself would save me some dough.

$75 just for the filter from S&P, I just got done talking to the owner yesterday.

Either way, he's right though. S&P should be used for research only, they are a bit pricey.

Ah, there ya go. Schitzo is over on LS1 tech alot, and he's doing this himself. So he's ahead of me here.
(But mine will be done sooner cuz I'm cheatin) lol
I wasn't sure, but I knew it was recommended....just wasn't positive if necessary.
My rad is old so new one was the best choice for me.

SCHITZO!!!! Quick question, did your stock alternator location fit okay, or did you have to move it??
S&P was tellin me I might have to move it....I thought he just wasn't sure.....so I'm asking.
I thought it would be okay...only the A/C deal has to go, right ??

All you need to do is grind the bolt that goes into the pitman arm(i think that is what its called) and it clears. Also remember to use the preload plates that come with the energy suspension mounts. I have a pic on my homepage showing where I had a clearance problem
