If I pull the connectors out of the neutral safety switch and run a wire from green wire to green wire and a wire from purple wire to purple wire, then it should technically activate both the safety start feature and the backup lights once I turn the key?

I think you are correct...

It will BYPASS the neutral safety switch and allow you to start the car in ANY gear.

The reverse lights will be "ON" also.
