Bad News

Well I just ran the #s that are on my block and heads!! When I bought my 73z 28 I was told it had a 350 from a 75 but the #s show that it is a 305!!

Block #s 460776
Heads 376450 W/ 60cc chambers

I am wanting to build a very strong motor for this car!
With this block & heads is there anything I can do or do I need to look for another block.

The heads I have not found what valves they have yet. They do have 60cc chambers though!

Any help would be helpfull!!

if you are trying to do a COMPLETE rebuild, you can buy a 350 block and heads for cheap. You can use all of the hardware from the 305 (steering pump, alternator, ect...)

I would suggest getting a 350 or even a SB 400, it will fit right in with no changes...

I've rebuilt a couple of 305's which turned out OK. Biggest concern is that they are a soft/low nickle block. Very poor thin casting too. Have to be sonic tested to se IF they can be bored too. Basically, a POS.

Options: hunt the junk yards for a 350 or 400 SBC. Buy a rebuild kit from Northern Autoparts http://www.northernautoparts.com/Index.cfm By kit I mean either a complete kit minus the crank (assuming the one you find is OK) or one of their complete kits http://www.northernautoparts.com/Pro...ctModelId=1666 They also have kit with cranks.

Also check with Performance Automotive Warehouse (PAW) for Speed-O-Motive or a short bloxk or long block kits. They both have some nice stuff.

450s are the 1.72 open chamber 305 heads.

The guy I got my car from was a "Mech", he said the #8 piston rings never set, swears it had 2.55 rearend. And had wires all over the place.

#8 was fine, had stock 3.08 gears, and fixed all the BS wiring.

He would fight over the 2.55 thing too, Dummass
