72 door panels
I was wondering exactly what door panels i have. the car is a 72 and panels are 2 pieces, a upper and a lower. i went to replace the uppers and the panels sent were wrong. the panels sent needs some sort of cap on top(the panels are flat). the panels that came with the car are rounded on the top and the inner window felts attach on it. what gives. i have looked around and cant seeem to find panels that are rounded on top. any and all help would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys

I think the 70-71 door panels are almost identical and they are flat one piece. The arm rest panel is plastic and mounts over it. Sounds like this is what they sent you. The 72 panel is also flat and may have two pieces, but I don't think it includes the curve at the top. I think 70-72 had the same upper door trim rail/panel with the hole for the door lock. Maybe the ones in your car are from a later model (after 77).

Adams,
i dont think they are ones from an older car. i was looking on year ones web site and it looks like they may have what i need. i will check there catalog tonight. i guess if all else fails i will get the caps. didnt the later door panels come in one piece and had the screw on arm rests? i was also wondering if these might be a deluxe interior panel. any clues? thanks again.

sorry, I do not have any better guesses. If you had deluxe panels, you would know it. They would have fake woodgrain trim and/or carpet inserts depending on the model year of the panels. If you are going to buy anything else I recommend calling NPD or Moementum. They have people that can talk you through what you need and get everything matched up. Classic also has good quality interior parts.
Saw the pics of your cars. They look great. I really like the way you have the Poncho set-up.

check the interior resoration section of this site, you'll have all the pics you need to figure out what you need. Unless I am mistaken for the year, standard panels are a total of 3 pieces. A top piece which the lock knob goes through and to which the inner felt mounts, a large door shaped vinyl covered board piece which is the "backing" the part that fits up to the door then a "map pocket/ arm rest" which mounts over the top of the vinyl piece at the bottom of the door. Deluxe pieces are different.

Yeah thats what i thought...but mine are two pieces the middle piece on my mine is really the top and middle piece(my covered panel is rounded at the top and the door lock goes through it and it goes down to where the map pocket screws to the bottom 1/2 of the door. kinda wierd. i saw a upper panel on ebay that is rounded on the top , but it said it was from a trans am. maybe thats what someone put in my car. any other suggestions would be welcome. its gotten more to what do i really have than getting my car period correct. thanks guys

YOu may have 2 piece panels with the lower plastic mappockets. If you do, and you ordered new door panels, they only send you the vinyl part, not the rounded plastic support that they actually attach to. They are available, yet pricey. Might do better finding some donor parts at a junkyard.
