1970 Steering Wheel Part Numbers

I realize that the standard 70 wheel was a one year only part thereby I assume there should be only one number but is it possible that are different part numbers for the same wheel... maybe based on trim level. My wheel pn# is 9752075-1 and am wondering if there are other "correct" wheels. I've seen a few what are claimed to be a correct wheel on eBay and until recently, have never inquired what the part number is. On the couple that I inquired on, the wheel appeared identical but was a different part number. Granted in order to see the part number, the wheel must be removed; none the less, I guess I'm asking for a consensus from the experts.

Thanks.

(My apologies if this post isn't as concise as should be... just got off a very long 15hr worknight and am a little tired.)

Your # is not a part #.
Here are the part #'s from the 1967-75 GM Parts Book

3989115 1970/all exc vinyl wheel-black
sup # is 3925579

The angle of the tangle X's the heat of the meat = the mass of the ASS.

Thanks for the reply, COPO. The # I'm refering to is molded into the center of the wheel, on the back side at about the 3 O'clock position, near the splines. If it's not a true part # then any idea what it could be?

Thanks again.

I suspect this is the casting number.

GM played this game a lot. Many parts had a casting number cast into them when they were made, but when they were entered into the parts books or sold, they showed up under a part number that was different.

Often this was because the part number included other pieces and was an assembly of more than one piece.

Other times it was just done that way because that was the way they did it.

Many of the intake manifolds show up in the parts books with part numbers that are different than the casting numbers on them.

If I ever have my steering wheel off, I'll write down the numbers on it just for comparison.

Remember that GM did not make the part so the suppliers put their own #'s on which sometimes didn't match GM's.

Gary S, Youre theory in many cases is wrong....look at all the cast iron parts and alum manifolds where the casting # IS the part #....such as 110 intake manifold 826/527 Exh man, 010 eng block etc, etc.....Chuck S
