Rust on chrome wheels

I just purchased a 1989 Camaro. It has American Eagle chrome wheels on it, but there is some rust on them. Does anyone know of a product I can buy to wipe the rust off?

how bad is the rust? if its not bad just use chrome polish and an old rag. it worked well for me. it might be pited a little where the rust was but its not that noticable.

Use a buffing compound and an electric-drill mounted small buffing wheel- that way you can sand off major rust (use steel wool) and then buff it all smooth and shiny again.

You could also try Navel Jelly. You can find it at hardware stores.

Try naval jelly like snyguy suggested. It will remove the rust without dulling the chrome, BUT, if the chrome rusted once, that says it is poor quality chrome, and it has pinholes in it so it will rust right away again.

I haven't seen any aftermarket wheels anytime in the last 40 years that were chrome, and of good enough quality to use outdoors. GM made fantastic chrome on cars bumpers and other parts during the 50s and 60s, but by the mid-70s, their chrome was of the same poor quality as the aftermarket guys.

From the experience I've had with wheels on my cars since the 60s, I will not ever again own any set of chromed steel wheels. My steel wheels will be painted so I can easily sandblast and repaint them. Painted steel or aluminum wheels are the only thing I will spend money on.
