AN plumbing questions
I am building a new engine for my car. I want to do all the lines in braided stainless. How do i figure out what size fitting to order for the manifold and fuel pump and all that? Heres the lines that i want done:
Upper radiator hose
Fuel pump to regulator, then to holley carb - (already have dual braided inlet for carb)
Water lines on intake (Deleting heater and want water holes on intake running to each other with braided line)
Going to have some sort of oil collection system off of a valve cover breather and want that in SS braid also.

Go to your favorite parts store and pick up some 1/8", 1/4" 3/8" and 1/2" NPT brass fittings (real cheap) and test each port.

if you're planning on making your radiator hoses into AN you're looking at mega bucks with the fittings and hoses as they range from 18AN to 22AN

Was planning on -16, not big enough? Should be about $100, not sure how to go from the radiator to AN though.

with specialty fitting threaded onto the radiator after removing the stock water neck and then using the same fittings in the thermostat hsg .you're looking at $65 or more for ea fitting then about $100 for just the hose

AN is short for Army/Navy universal sizing.
They have a specific thread for AN, however, the sizes are in 16ths. A -3 would be 3/16, -8 would be 1/2 etc etc.
As stated the fittings to run a true AN style line for the radiator will cost you a couple hundred dollars to get both hoses setup right, and that is more or less for high-stress racecar applications where you cannot afford to have a hose blow off.
So if you're getting a bunch of fittings from the hardware store that are brass, running a specialty AN line doesn't really make any sense.
If you're trying to clean up your engine bay, a simple cheap and entry level way into doing this would be a push-lock style line and fitting setup, no clamps, and you can get them in several tasteful color setups or all black/silver/whatever.

You just need to decide what all hoses you want to do and then see how much they are

Going to cost a lot more then you think, and if you damage any fittings then it will cost even more. You will have to take your time and be very carful. And they look better when you use Billet Specialties clamps on them, especially on the larger heater & rad hoses. If you mark them up it will look like crap. I didn't do the rad hoses.
