Borg Warner T-10 1978 Z28

Can anyone decode this casting number? I know the 903 designates an aluminum case. I canít get info on the numbers prior to the 903. Thanks

Andy, I have a '78 Z with the original Borg Warner T-10 as well. I have not been able to decode those numbers either, here is what is stamped on my case:

Transmission Passenger Side Casting: 1304065 903
W.G. Div.
FpC1

The information that I have is that the entire 13-04-065-903 is a part number, the 13-04 designates a T10 model and the 065 says that it is the case/housing and then as you know the 903 is aluminum. 902 was grey iron, 903 aluminum, and 904 was nodular iron. You will have numbers on your tail shaft/extension housing as well, that should be 13 04=T10 model, 066=tail shaft/extension housing, 90x(mine reads 901? still working on this one). You will also find numbers on your side plate(drivers side) 13 04=T10 model, 097=side plate, 90x. On the side plate most likely you will also find a date code that will start with a letter followed by 2 two digit numbers example: J 29 82 which would indicate a cast date of J=September, 29=day of the month, 8=1978, 2=second shift. Month codes as follows: A=January etc. through December with the letter I being excluded which makes J=September. That being said I have seen date codes that end simply with the year 79, 80, etc. Also, if the T10 is original to the car there may be a partial VIN stamped on the case/housing(top passenger side). I hope this helps.

You're welcome. When you find the VIN the first 3 digits can be decoded, division, year, and plant. If you want to post it I will try to help with that too.
