Possible belhouse problem...HELP

I have my late 60's muncie m20 bolted into my car, today I was topping off fluids in the tranny getting ready for the maiden voyage. I noticed the numbers on my belhouse as 460486...which after searching the net I am finding out is a truck belhouse. Everyone is saying it wont fit a car muncie, something about the hole is bigger on this particular belhouse. My question is...I already got the tranny in, everything bolted up find, everything slid together, all the clutch rods and fork fit as it should...Am I gonna have problems? I have read they make a ring to size the hole proper...how do I know if this bell already has it? Please don't say i have to pull the tranny! What could happen if I have this bolted together and it dont have the smaller ring and I drive the car? Please help me out guys....I am so close on finishing this car....I dont want to take 4 steps back.

Just a follow up...I just talked to my friend who helped me with the tranny, he and I both think the tranny fit the hole pretty tight. it may have had a 1/16 on each side.......how much larger is the hole for the truck?

hey man just until someone whos knows about your question will help you , you may want to check out the to how to videos at hurst-drivelines.com

bellhousing alignment, clutch fork angle and throw out bearing install.

It should have no extra room to any side, its usually a press fit its so snug, usually you have to use a hammer or prybar to remove it and you have to fight to slide it in.
What will happen if you leave it like that, there will most likely be a clutch misalighment issue or pilot bearing wear, the trans should be centered on the hole not the 4 bolts. The belhousing might crack and the ears on the trans might break off.
Its up to you, roll the dice. But just like the casino the odds are not in your favor.

Dude,

The truck bellhousing opening for the front retainer of the trans IS WAY BIG in comparison to the correct car bellhousing . Believe me...you would know right away that it was too big. It is a huge difference when you see them side by side.

Well I guess I am hoping that It already had the reducing ring in it. I think I am gonna push my luck this summer.....I don't plan on beating on the car anyways. The tranny is the only thing I didn't go through on assembly of my car, so my plans were to pull it next winter anyways and rebuild it. Do any of you guys think I will have any problems with the bellhousing this summer if I take it easy?? Thanks.

I run a truck bell on my Sag. I had to replace the front bearing retainer. It let me run a 12" clutch instead of 10"

Someone also sells a machined ring you drill, tap, screw in the bell hole to make up the difference. i dont like that Idea. You can get a new bearing retainer fairly cheap.

Thanks for the input guys, I contacted Auto Gear today and they are sending me the oversized front bearing retainer to fit the truck bellhouse. Looks like I am pulling a tranny this weekend.......just shoot me.
