What is a 41/12 ring and pin ratio

Hey i just took off the cover on a gm 10 bolt that was given to me and the big ring gear was 41 and the small one going to the driveshaft was 12. If you divide that is is 341.66 , is that actually a 342 ratio. It came from a 76 formula one firebird. The axels turn opposite from each other on each hub. What do i have. I currently have 41/15 in 71 RS rear behind a 415 BB. M20 tranny. I have never driven the car yet. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...P8030100-2.jpg

That's a 3.42, sounds like an open differential, too, not posi.

Welcome to the site gorilla, nice looking motor ya have there. Love the color of the sub-frame.

As Todd said, 3.42 open, get a Eaton posi for it and it will work fine behind that BBC, a marked improvement over the 2.73 you have.

And read this. The Yukon Dura Grip is also a good choice.

I did mine with Rustoleum hammered silver and got a lot of compliments on it. (While I had it that is)

I have been living on a Cop budget for many years, that's why it has taken me two years to get to this point. Just changed career mode. Making more money so now i can go on with it. Plan anyway.

Yeah, I sold it with little regret, I spend a lot more time with my kids since I got rid of it. And Yes, you can swap out the ring and pinion and drive it but I would recommend the Eaton while yer doing it. Freddie can get ya a good deal on it. Shoot him a pm if he doesn't reply here. Its guys like him that make this the best forum on the net!
