Aurora slot cars

My latest Classic Camaro catalogue put a smile on my face. They actually sell Camaro slot cars. They are $20 each. They look like they are the same exact Aurora slot cars that I got when I was a kid (and still have). Hey, if I get one for my 11 year old son, then I can play with it. Just like Nintendo 64. I can't wait until he starts dating.

Do you know who the manufacturer is? Johnny Lightning recently released a 1972 Camaro. It comes in 3 colors: black, lime green, and chrome red. You can get these for @ 5 bucks.

The cars were made by Aurora Plastics which was somewhere on Long Island, NY. They have been out of production for decades. I don't know where these cars came from, but they made so much of this stuff that I wouldn't be surprised if these were actually made in the sixties or seventies. A local collector told me that the cars are desirable, the track is not. You can still find NEW track for sale. The cars are in the Classic Camaro catalogue C99A. Page number 163. Prices are $19.95 or $24.95, depending on color. They are first generation only. Classic's phone number is 1-800-854-1280. The catalogue has a price of $5.00US, $8.00 Canada. These are HO slot cars which run on electricity. I have had them all my life and I haven't seen them since the early seventies. They are not like anything Hot Wheels or Johnny Lightning ever made. (I had Sizzlers, too.) I may order one of these just to check it out.

I have 2 of the cars that dinograz is talking about. They are pull back cars that move out pretty fast on the kitchen floor! But apparently the bodies can be mounteed on the aurora slot car chassis. They are not bad but the front end is a little funny lookin'
