Roundtrip USA Diary - Julian

Alright here I will create my diary as I travel all across the USA.
Right now I had some minor drawbacks, so I can't start the diary as intended.
As soon as I can charge my netbook again, I'll post here everytime I can. So stay frosty and keep track.

Aside all the problems, minor or major I faced, however. I have to thank all the guys from Aleromod.com for the awesome first days in the USA. The time I had with you guys was a blast. My cheeks still hurt, and Dr. Fellatio and the gang will be painfully missed.

If you guys wanna write me, send me an e-mail via Aleromod, cause I'll probably will only have time to post in one diary.

So, see you soon and remember to keep track with me.

8am in the morning my friend picked me up at home and drove me to Stuttgart airport.
he's a really stand up guy, providing this "service" I hope he didn't have any problems at work, cause I was a little later than abgesprochen.

Finding the Delta CheckIn in Stgt was that hard, it was the last CheckIn point at the other side of the port
Ohhh dang, I forgot to write the adress down, I submited with my ESTA form. I need this adress, too, for my ASPI form of the carrier.

So the clerk got pissed, enter NONE
So I thought I have half a hour left so turn on WiFi and check the Super8 in NJ again, easier said than done. NO effing free WiFi in Stgt, that retarded Germany!
So called my dad, this was the first time the "old" man used google maps
but 10 min before boarding he found the correct address - *hoooraayy*
running back to the CeckIn "so you got scared, called your destination;huh?
ha ha funny - but everything went flawlessly.
Security, awkward, but fast going down to the other side of the port and there it is, the first test for my new passport, a angry and bored looking borderpolice guy. But all went fine,
getting into the plane, nice seat, and hell ya - a young (18) American that lived 14 years in Germany next to me. Not a big talker but really swell.
So after about 7 and something hours I land in Atlanta. Hell that airport is huge!!
but the distances weren't the problem. Security and passport control took forever. I got lucky I was the last German that was checked before the main part of the Japanese's turn.
run to the the baggage claim - and the luggage that came right in front of me - MINE
Off to security and CPB check - the hell I tell you.
PLAN AT LEAST 4 HOURS NEXT TIME!!!!
I run through the rest of the port and using the ground tram to get to my concourse - and to see, I looked at the wrong Philly flight *dang* all that just to have another 1:30 hours to pass.

Well time to start the diary, trying to go online - WiFi first not working, who knows why.
Tried another server - worked, but restricted. Strike one

So now its 16:45 local - time to find a place I can change my cash, that I took with my by accident.
Alright, that didn't work so well. A big NO RE-ENTRY AFTER THAT POINT kept me from going back to the Terminal. With about 50 min till departure - a risk too big.
Till I came back to the gate, I just had to wait about 20 min
And right as I am writhing this, something upfront began burning, the slight smell of fumes and the anxciety of the surrounding people made me look up - interesting, to say at least.
The fire was contained, and the A/C was switched to full power, about 10 min later, the cabin is mostly free again.

so where were I .. wait 20 min and boarding began, last seat right between the engines of this McD plane - may I now say old plane?

Still trying to figure oout how this WiFi works :

Hi, I am not dead I arrived safely in Boston - Dave is a great host.
But my cell phone is messed up, I can't use it. The next cricket store would be in Baltimore.
So if someone is attending the nationals, can you please drive me to next store so I can shove em up the contract and get something real. Something I can use all across the USA without having to activate it everytime i go somewhere else.

More about the last days, will be posted this evening - now I am on my way to Boston.

4 am getting ready to go, Pennsilvania Turnpike here we come.
Tasted my first coffee in the US. I have to say, I always read that Americans can't brew coffee, but as a coffeecionado I have to say - that Wawa coffee was darn good.
My first expression about American Interstates, a lot of billboards, a lot of open space, and some pretty good pavement compared to Germany.
Just like driving in eastern Germany.

But hell, that trip took some time - 11+ hours of driving occasional showers out of nowhere. But that doesn't seem to be unusual around here.

After Kenny and I checked in at the hotel - we soon met some fellow Alero drivers. But not anyone - those guys are the owners, the grand gurus.

Well it got a little bit later and guess what, I was invited to my first in a lifetime Baseball game (minor league).
WOW - that was a blast. Lansing Lugnuts against the Southband Silver hawks, the lugnuts loose, sadly, but as long I had a lot of fun

Pics will follow as soon as I have uploaded them.

Well after the game and a amazing ride in one of the final 500 Aleros (what a fine car), we had some phun time in the hotel room. Who ever guessed we could destroy so much canadian beer???

The ASS day.

Hell I've never seen that many Aleros in one place.
This shot is taken in front of the old Oldsmobile HQ. What a shame

I know almost all 50 Alero's in Germany, but since now I've only seen 6 in my lifetime. And now there they are, nearly everything Oldsmobile had to offer since 1999.
I kinda forgot how much fun it can be to just hang out with your friends. I totally missed this for a long time.
Wow they even had a Trivia and a Trophy, guess what, I won one trivia question and even a trophy. I don't have pictures of it but be assured being the "roadwarrior trophy" its is amazing and huge, I even had to send it home via USPS cause it won't fit my suitcase nor my backpack.

After we had a lot of fun we all were heading to the R.E. Olds Museum to get an awesome impression what this extraordinary man has done, I didn't know that his wife was as active as him.

It was amazing to see what this man has done in his lifetime and what a ingenuous engineer he was. I have heard stories about the Olds curved dash but wtf - this car is huge. If you have seen the car Mercedes was starting all this - he should've talked to R.E. to know how to do it right the first time.

Now my timing is a little bit messed up. I can't remember if we after that went to Hooters or if this was the other day. My camera says I took the pictures at 1:11 am so that can't be true.

Sounds like you will need a vacation when you get back home

Funny comment about WAWA coffee....I tend to like theirs as well as the Brasilian coffee I had in Rio.

The homecoming

Before I tell you anything else. This day was frigging cool.
Well not in the way weather would be cool more in the way the day was.
So after having a good breakfast at the hotel - I like those waffles - we were heading to the Oldsmobile Homecoming show. Don't ask me were it was, but rest assured, if you were there too, you'd be as fried as me
This is the first sunburn I got after about 5 years. Hmmm maybe I am official redneck now.

The show itself was on a huge parking lot across a federal building (forgot name) music was played through the speakers, a "funland" for the kids, a lot to eat and drink and hundreds and hundreds of cars.
I missed the opportunity to ride with one the 1902 or 1901 curved dashes but se la vie. I was baffled how good the 1 piston engine was running and how the fumes didn't smell at all.
I've seen some one of a kind cars, rare cars, lovely restored and nearly wasted cars.
Hmm I seen to have found some new friends as I was interviewed and people could hear me say through the loudspeakers that - in short - "German cars suck".

A bit after noon the gang took off and heading back to the hotel to have some pleasant time.
And we sure did. We were all surprised as some big wheeled cars suddenly came driving along the parking lot. THESE ARE 24's WTH??? and spinners??? Thats a thing you'll never see in Germany, and the way the A.S.S guys reacted it wasn't as common for them, either.

The evening we all went down to have some relax time at the pools - and I can say sunburn and hot jacuzzi don't mix -outsh!!!

Well today it was time to say goodbye to the cool people of Aleromod, time to say hello 12hour drive to Philadelphia.

Kenny took me to the Rock'n'Roll Hall of fame. A good place to stay a while. It isn't as awesome, however, as the commercial says. The main floor and some other things are really nice but 22$ admission is a bit hefty for that.
What I totally missed were some stories and stuff about Anvil (all Metalheads knows what I am talking about) and the newer 80+ Rock comes a bit short, too.
But if you're interested in the beginning and especially about the black contribution to rock, it'll be very informative if you bring about 6 hours.
In cause you wonder - taking photos is prohibited in the hall of fame. But I let Kenny take a pic of me with the ZZTop Rod
Its good to be nasty.

The good thing of being at the R'n'R Hall of fame, we didn't get caught in the accident on the Philadelphia turnpike (which is a new word I learned). So I had my first traffic, as you call it, or as we say Stau.
A complete stand still for about a hour. Till the nasty German came up with the idea, why not drive to ne next exit via the shoulder (for all Germans reading - Standstreifen) - I told him it was legal in Germany if your stuck in traffic and wanna head to the next exit.
Well the time we were half way to the exit (about 2 miles I think) there wasn't any traffic at all. Two truck drivers must've been falling asleep and no car could pass them - the original accident was still about 5 miles ahead of the exit.

So we just drove home on the turnpike.

At home I started posting the beginning of my trip and did some other organizational stuff.
At about 1am I was finally in bed again
