6x8 vs 6x9 rear speakers
I can pick up a set of brand new 6x8 speakers for the rear for half the cost of a set of 6x9. But will they work with no modification to the rear deck?
I measured the opening and its 8", but dont want to get them if they wont work..
can anyone tell me if they will work?

6x8 and 6x9 go in different sized holes, if that is what you are asking. Can you fudge a 6x8 into a 6x9 hole, never tried.

yea guess i shoudl have been more clear on what i needed to know.. ive been into stereos and sound systems since before i owned my first car..but havent dealt with 6x9 or any 6x?? sizes since highschool, i tend to stay around 10" and larger and since i dont have a set of 6x9 or 6x8 to test fit in my rear deck i wanted to see if a 6x8 would mount in the rear deck without any mods.. when i measured the hole this morning the longest part was 8" and since im going to mount whatever i get from under the deck i didnt want to waste my time and money on 6x8 if they arent going to work..
So i guess one thing that would answer my question is are the rear deck speaker holes in a 74 6x9 or 6x8?
thanks..

Even though the opening in the rear dieck is 5"x8"... The mounting holes fr the speakrs are drilledto fit 6"x9" speakers.
You shuldn't have to cut any metal to mount them beneath the pakage tray.
I've had three brads of 6x9 speakers in my Camaro.. None of them required any metal work to mount them.

6x8's are for Fords & Mazdas. Camaros use 6x9's. 'Nuff said!

6x8's come with a self destruct mechanism built into them if they're put into a Chevy.

Just get some Kenwood 6x9's, they're cheap, they rock, and they last forever.
