Hook the brown wire off the plug to the wire coming off the charge light. On my Nova it was a tan wire, not sure on a 78 Camaro. I'll check my diagram after dinner if no one else pipes in with the color.

EDIT:OK my diagram for the 78 Camaro shows a red at the lug and a red and brown at the plug. Hook the large red back to the lug and hook the brown to the single wire on the new alt connector. If you look at the side of the connector it should have letters corresponding to each wire socket. The one wire being used should be in the L designation. You won't be using the red wire from the plug in the factory harness but it will be hot with the key on so cap it if you don't remove it completely. As long as you have factory gauges you're good to go.

There are 4 wires in the plug on the later CS alternators , S, F , L , and P , as well as an output stud on the rear of the alternator.

S wire from the plug should go to the stud on the back of the alternator and then with a dedicated wire go from the same stud to the positive of the battery.

The newer alternators have higher output and the factory charge wire is generally not up to the task of making it back to the battery without susbstantial voltage drop. As was said you can cap this off in the loom and not use it.

F terminal will not be used

L will tie into the factory excite wire , usually Brown and was the smaller of the two in the plug on the original alternator.

P will not be used.
