ticking

Ive got a newly rebuilt 350 hyd flat tappet cam motor and its been ticking since it was built. The second we fired it up to 2500rpms to break it in it was ticking loudly. It was broken in properly, oil changed and no metal. It makes good psi and runs great, other than the ticking. It ticks louder when hot, and starts at 1100 rpm and above. Engine load has no effect on the noise and it isnt a rod knock.

Check your flywheel?
Also, you may need to adjust the rockers

Check your valve adjustment.

Ive done valve adjustments it doesn't seem to make any difference. What else could be the cause? One thing I should note is that because I didnt know better at the time I broke the engine in while the flywheel bolted to the trans converter and the fluid was drained at the time and the converter was at one point dropped. The car drives fine with no signs of converter failure but was wondering if maybe that could have broke something in the converter causing it to make noise but still function?

Hopefully this is not your problem but years back I knew a guy who's newly rebuilt motor came apart and was ticking beforehand. One of the rings got installed upside down.

Also make sure flexplate/flywheel bolts are tight.
